How old must a child be to begin music lessons?
We are often asked how early a child may begin music lessons. The answer depends on both the choice of instrument and on the individual child’s interest and development. Small hands can often succeed on piano more easily than on stringed instruments.
Some children have the patience to begin piano lessons at age four or five, but most will make better progress once they’re a little older. Guitar requires more dexterity and reach, so most children will not be ready until age six or seven.
If you are unsure about whether your child is ready, we are happy to schedule a first lesson with no commitment, and our teacher will be able to offer an experienced opinion.
For toddlers and children too young for individual lessons, we offer fun and educational group classes.
